Charlie and Mara from We Love Wolverton write:
The Great Get Together is a National initiative inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on 16 June 2016. We believe there is a groundswell of people who reject divisive politics and simply want to bring our communities together and celebrate all that unites us.
Wolverton was certainly successful in achieving a united Great Get Together on 22nd June. We estimate that at least 200 residents met in the Square to celebrate our diversities in a festive and relaxed atmosphere.
Local businesses were invited to take part and a range of activities were organised. Including Zumba with Cas, Mungo Jungo skiffle band, Latin beats with DJ Pat and juggling with James. As well as face painting, chalk art, bubbles filled the air as old and new friendships met in the Square. It was a realisation of some of the aims of We Love Wolverton, which is a community group run by volunteers who organise events that are affordable and open to all. Our motto is: growing and inspiring the community together.
