The regeneration of the Agora has been a community priority for Wolverton for years. This page summaries some of the engagement activities undertaken during the planning process.
Minecraft Agora
TOWN worked with BlockBuilders to run a series of workshops with local schoolchildren. Using the popular Minecraft game, kids (and grown-ups!) were able to explore the demolition and regeneration of the Agora.
Agora Regeneration Working Group
From early 2018, TOWN worked with representatives of the Town Council, local businesses, faith groups and community organisations through an Agora Regeneration Working Group convened by Milton Keynes City Council. Meeting every few weeks, the group initially focused on parking and transport issues but has broadened its remit to look at regeneration more widely. You can read the Working Group’s Terms of Reference and the minutes and presentations of meetings here.
Stakeholder workshop
On 7th March 2019, a workshop facilitated by ImaginePlaces was held at King’s Church with around 60 local stakeholders – councillors, officials, businesses, community representatives – to review and discuss the emerging design using timber block models. You can see the presentations from the day and read a report here.
Public review
A full public review of the draft scheme design was held on 13-15th June 2019. This gave local people the opportunity to see and comment on the proposals in detail before a planning application is prepared. Details are available here.
Activating the Agora site
TOWN worked with local storytellers A Word In Edgeways to develop a programme of events and activities using the public space in front of the Agora in summer and autumn 2019, called “Agora A-Go-Go”.
Still Green Cohousing
TOWN worked with the members of Still Green Cohousing to facilitate the design of a block of the development as their shared new home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
