We are delighted to update that the structural demolition of the Agora centre is well-progressed and its roof is now entirely removed, with much of the remaining structure also coming down in the past few weeks. It has been great to hear the positive public response during this period, with many people sending photos and videos of what will be historical as well as memorable moments in time.
As the Agora building was built in 1979, there were areas of risk we predicted could arise throughout the demolition process, including the presence of asbestos. The extent of asbestos has been greater than anticipated, and as a result the programme has been pushed back in order to safely remove it by Goody’s team of specialists. We have made changes to the project timeline to reflect this and will now be expected to be completed by mid-December (updated here on the website).
Goody Demolition welcomed members of the Agora Regeneration Working Group to the site as structural demolition commenced in August.
